Mythical Bunyip headlines 2008 Pacific School Games

Mascot Launch

After months of eager anticipation, the secret is finally out. The 2008 Pacific School Games Mascot, a Bunyip, was officially launched yesterday

At a school assembly, students from Higgins Primary School were treated to a traditional aboriginal dance performance by the Wiradjuri Echoes.

The long awaited introduction of the 2008 Pacific School Games Mascot soon followed, with the Bunyip finally making its appearance and delighting the children with his colourful and friendly character.

The idea of a Bunyip, which is a mythical aboriginal creature synonymous with the indigenous culture, was conceived during a focus group with ACT school children late last year.

The 2008 Pacific School Games Bunyip Mascot will be an important addition to the promotion of the biggest school sport event ever held in Canberra.

The race is now on to find a name for the Mascot with the 2008 Pacific School Games currently running a Name the Bunyip Competition which is open to all ACT school children.

It is anticipated that the winner of this competition will be announced at the upcoming 2008 Pacific School Games Less than 100 Days to go Countdown Show on the 29 August.

Upcoming event: 2008 Pacific School Games Less than 100 Days Countdown Show
