Adrian Faccioni
Official Ambassador for the 2008 Pacific School Games
Profile
Adrian’s Pacific School Games “claim to fame” is that he competed – and won a medal - in the very first PSG ever, held in Brisbane in 1982 as a practice event for the Commonwealth Games that year.
A Track & Field athlete, Adrian went on to add other commendable accolades to his sporting resume include coming second in the Junior Australian Decathlon Championships and becoming the Australian Junior Decathlon record holder in 1984.
Although now retired from competitive sport, Adrian has gone on to have a successful career in Sports Coaching, specifically in the area of speed and conditioning for high performance athletes and was also course convener for the Sports Coaching degree at the University of Canberra for 11 years. He has formal university qualifications in sport including a Master of Applied Science - Exercise Physiology from the University of Canberra.
Adrian is currently a member of the Olympic Advisory Board for the 2008 Australian Olympic Track and Field Program. He also provided advice to the Australian Sports Drug Agency on alternatives to the use of drugs in sport.
These days Adrian is extremely busy running an elite sport performance analysis company – GPSports Systems – a company that provides athletes with the crucial tools for understanding their physiological responses under different training and competitive regimes and over time. GPSports exports to 18 countries products that include an elite GPS/heart rate/accelerometer specifically for the Elite Professional Team Sport athlete, an advanced online training diary and a performance collation/evaluation product.
His advice to young athletes is that to reach their potential they should realise it is going to take some time – “at least five years”.
“Being healthy and as injury free as you possibly can be will be two key factors that will ultimately determine if you reach your goals or not.”
