Profile

The 2008 Pacific School Games is very proud and honoured to have the Honourable Margaret Reid as the 2008 Pacific School Games Volunteers Ambassador.

Margaret has had a long and distinguished career in politics and held the office of Senator for the ACT between 1981 and 2003.

In 1996, Margaret became the first woman in the history of the Australian Senate ever to be elected as President and went on to serve as President for six years.

Margaret has been an active patron and long time supporter of numerous community organisations in Canberra. She has an intrinsic involvement with School Sport in Canberra and was patron for School Sport ACT from the 1980s to 2002.

For her service to the Australian Parliament and the community, Margaret was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal and was appointed an Officer in the Order of Australia in 2004.

Margaret is delighted to come on board as the 2008 Pacific School Games Volunteer Ambassador. She believes that the 2008 Pacific School Games will represent a myriad of sporting opportunities not only to the most promising athletes to compete at the highest level, but also for members of the Canberra Community to be involved as Volunteers at this prestigious international school sport event.
