Lincoln Withers

Official Ambassador for the 2008 Pacific School Games

Profile

At school, Withers played a lot of sport where most of it centred on Rugby League.  He played in a few representative league teams and for his local club in Woden.  Withers also participated in other sports, such as Rugby Union and Athletics while attending school at St. Peter's and Paul's, Marist and Erindale College.

Withers is still involved with his junior club the Woden Weston Rams, as part of a program at the Raiders where all the NRL players are aligned to a junior club.

His senior sport experience is in the NRL where he made his debut for the Raiders in 2000.  Since then, Withers has gone on and played for other teams such as the Tigers and the Dragons, but has since made his way home and has now been back in Canberra for four years playing for the Green Machine.

One of Withers' biggest highlights came last year when he played for the Prime Minister's XIII against Papua New Guinea.  It was a wonderful experience when he played with incredible players such as Mark Gasnier and new Raider recruit Joel Monaghan.

Withers' advice to young athletes is to train hard and never give up.

"I'm not one of the biggest guys in the NRL, but I made it through hard work and dedication.  You must also remember to always have fun when playing sport, as this is what keeps you chasing your dreams."

The ultimate goal that Withers has set for himself is to be the best player he can be and to win the NRL Premiership with the Raiders in the near future.
