CIT joins the 2008 PSG Family

18 July 2008

At the 2008 Pacific School Games, competitors will not be the only ones put through their paces. Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) massage therapy students will also be working hard looking after tired muscles.

Under the supervision of qualified instructors, students who are studying a Diploma of Remedial Massage will be offering 10-20 minute massage therapy sessions to 2008 PSG competitors. Prior to competition, massage therapy can increase circulation and flexibility, while post competition it can aid in recovery.

One CIT student looking forward to the games is Fiona Towill, currently studying a Diploma of Remedial Massage at CIT.  “Being involved in the Pacific School Games is a wonderful opportunity to put my skills into action.  It’s a great feeling to know I can help calm athletes before an event and help them to focus on doing their best”.

To receive a complementary massage therapy session, competitors must be accompanied by an adult (Parent or Team Official) and should look out for the CIT massage area located at each of the 2008 PSG sporting venues.

Want to work as a massage therapist?

While at this year's Pacific School Games, you may see several tents staffed by CIT students offering relief for tired muscles as part of their Diploma of Remedial Massage.

CIT is offering an opportunity for current high school students to be introduced to massage therapy while still completing school.

Over 9 weeks, students will learn basic anatomy and physiology as well as how to give a body massage.  This course is also a pre-requisite to the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice also taught through CIT.

Let your hands take you places as a massage therapist
