Dickson College General Construction Class
The students making the 2008 Pacific School Games Diving Scoreboard are in the Year 12 General Construction class at Dickson College, Canberra.
At the beginning of the year there were 10 students and each planned that they would work through their Year 12 until they had achieved both their Year 12 Certificate as well as successfully completing all their competencies and gain their Certificate Two in General Construction.
Throughout their time at Dickson the group has always grasped opportunities to become involved with as many community and school based projects as they could. When the opportunity arose to assist in some way with the promotion of Canberra and Canberra's school sporting community they happily put up their hand to help.
The Diving Scoreboard was a simple and easy way to demonstrate and apply their basic trade skills and practical expertise while allowing other students to enjoy themselves in their chosen sporting pursuits in the 2008 Pacific School Games.
Recently the Dickson group has halved since the Diving Scoreboard task was taken on as students gained the necessary points to be awarded their Year 12 Certificate as well satisfying all required of the Certificate Two in General Construction. This has seen some students opt to leave prior to the end of Term 4 as an apprentice in their area of interest in the building industry.
The following Year 12 Dickson College students were involved:
Wade Blundell, T J Aitchison, Beau Bullock, Domonic Cork, Mitch Callagher, Zac Maybury, Nick Monteleone, Kane Perry and Mitch Walton.
