Education Topics

The focus of the 2008 Pacific School Games is to encourage participation through the school system by emphasising the Pacific School Games contribution towards the development of the whole person and furthering the ideals of school sport.

Hosting the 2008 Pacific School Games also provides a fantastic opportunity for teachers to bring a major international sporting event into their classroom. A myriad of rich learning opportunities are presented by the visiting competing countries as diverse and interesting as Vanuatu, French Polynesia , Ecuador and many more.

Each education topic provides basic information that can assist teachers in developing student learning activities based on the following themes:

In the Canberra section, students will have the opportunity to learn more about the history of Canberra and the many interesting and fun facts about the Nation’s Capital.

The Countries section is an excellent source of information for all students interested in learning more about the countries coming to the 2008 Pacific School Games. This section features flags, interesting facts and profiles of participating countries and gives students and teachers an opportunity to develop an appreciation of the cultural diversity of the various countries.

The ‘Did you know?’ section has been developed to reinforce important messages such as being SunSmart and a Good Sport whilst at the same time, giving students the opportunity to learn about interesting sporting facts.
