- refereed swimming for many years at national, local and international levels

- meet director for many competitions including national championships

- President of ACT Swimming for many years

- Chaired the Minister's Advisory Committee for Sport and Recreation

Joan's vision for the 2008 PSG is that it will provide an atmosphere where "swimmers will be able to enjoy competing and achieving their own aspirations".  And with competitors from overseas and Australia, she hopes that many new friendships from a diversity of backgrounds will be forged.

She sees that the 2008 PSG Swimming competition will be unique as it will give swimmers their first opportunity to swim at the Australian Institute of Sport pool where so many of our best swimmers have trained and achieved.  "No other pool in Australia has this history and ambience."
