Competition Venue

The 2008 Pacific School Games Swimming Competition will be conducted at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Swimming complex at the AIS sporting precinct in the inner Canberra suburb of Bruce.

The swimming pool complex to be used for the competition is an indoor venue consisting of a 50 metre x 8 lane competition pool and a 25 metre x 6 lane warm-up pool.  The 50 metre competition pool has a constant depth of 2.2 metres (7 foot). There are troughs around the edges of the pool to reduce wave turbulence.  Several long and short course world records have been set in this pool.

The 2008 PSG Track and Field competition will also be conducted at the AIS at the nearby track and field facility situated some 300 metres from the swimming complex and the five courts at the AIS Basketball and Netball Centre for the Basketball competition are also nearby.  The National Hockey Centre, the venue for the 2008 PSG Hockey competition, is a five minute drive or a 20 minute walk from the AIS.  The Diving venue is situated in the city centre precinct a 10-15 minute drive from the AIS.
