Basketball venue

The 2008 Pacific School Games Basketball Competition will be played at two venues, the Belconnen Basketball Stadium (see map) and the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Basketball and Netball Centre (see map) which is located in the Frank Stewart Sport Training Facility. There are four courts at the Belconnen Basketball Stadium and five at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS). All courts will be used for the competition. |
The AIS Basketball and Netball Centre is the home of the AIS Basketball and Netball teams. Some of Australia's best basketball players haved played and trained on the AIS courts, including Lauren Jackson, Mark Bradtke and Patrick Mills.
Swimming venue

The 2008 Pacific School Games Swimming Competition will be conducted at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Swimming complex at the AIS sporting precinct in the inner Canberra suburb of Bruce.

The swimming pool complex to be used for the competition is an indoor venue consisting of a 50 metre x 8 lane competition pool and a 25 metre x 6 lane warm-up pool. The 50 metre competition pool has a constant depth of 2.2 metres (7 foot).
There are troughs around the edges of the pool to reduce wave turbulence. As the AIS website indicates, several long and short course world records have been set in this pool. See Map
Diving venue

The diving competition will be conducted at the Canberra Olympic Pool, situated in the Civic Centre precinct, the commercial and retail heart of Canberra. The venue is well serviced by Canberra’s public bus system and there is ample public parking within easy walking distance. |
The facility has a 50 metre x 8 lane covered pool, a 27 x 17 metre diving pool and a 20 metre shade covered children’s wading pool. The diving pool is an outdoor facility that features a diving tower at one end of the 27 metre pool and two one metre springboards at the other end. The tower comprises two 3 metre springboards and a five (5) and ten (10) metre platform. The pool has a constant depth of 5.1 metres (16.5 feet). See Map
Track and Field venue

The 2008 Pacific School Games Track & Field competition will be conducted at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) track & field facility at the AIS sporting precinct in the inner Canberra suburb of Bruce. |
The venue provides the following competition facilities:
- 400 metres x 8 lane mondo track
- two dedicated high jump areas
- four long jump/triple jump pits
- two discus/hammer throw cages
- two pole vault run ways
- two javelin run ways
- three dedicated shot putt areas
- electronic timing and photo finish
The venue will be the main training facility for the Australian Track & Field team prior to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. All throwing and jumping areas are located within the field and provide excellent viewing from the covered grandstand with seating for approximately 700 spectators. The sloped grassed areas on either side of the grandstand also provide excellent viewing to all areas of the field. See Map
Hockey venue

The 2008 Pacific School Games Hockey competition will be played at the National Hockey Centre (NHC) in Lyneham, an inner suburb close to the city centre. |
The NHC is a world class facility consisting of three enclosed fields –the ‘Carter’ Field, the ‘Powell’ Field and the ‘Watt’ Field. The Carter and the Powell Fields have a Poligras 2000 LSR water-based synthetic surface and the Watt Field has a Poligras H20Z water-based synthetic surface.
The 2008 Men's Australian Hockey League Tournament was played at the NHC in Canberra. During 2005 the International Women’s Champions Trophy was also played at the NHC. The Watt Field has the same surface used in the 2000 Sydney Olympics Hockey competition. See Map
